Phoenix is a lovely, 2 year old girl who lived the first 18 months of her life in an abusive home. Following an incident where she was stabbed with a butchers knife and shot repeatedly with a BB gun, Phoenix was removed from the home by Animal Control. The former owners also had an intact male in the home and when left loose, Phoenix became very snappy and pushy with him. We do not know if Phoenix endured any other abuse, however, she was left with both physical and emotional scars. Phoenix is currently in a multi-dog home that has done extensive obedience work and socialization with her over the last 4 months. This has given her both stability and confidence. At times, she continues to be reactive with other dogs, which is why she would do best with a single-dog family! We believe this change in environment as an only dog will give her the greatest chance to succeed. She learns quickly and works very well for treats. She longs to be with you and will follow you wherever you go. She loves being petted, talked to, and to have your undivided attention! Phoenix can get jealous if she feels she has to share. At times, her fears get the better of her and she can become overwhelmed and reactive. She can be redirected with little effort but it is important to read her signals and react appropriately. Thus, she would do best in the hands of a very experienced Doberman owner that can redirect her fear responses into positive behavior that can be rewarded.
Despite her history of abuse, she is still a happy girl that loves to play, but also very much loves to work. Like all Dobermans, she will need rules to live by and likes knowing what is expected of her. Phoenix makes great use of her senses and would thrive off an activity such as nosework. This would be an excellent way to engage her mind while also boosting her confidence! Phoenix is a wonderful dog that will flourish in the right home that is able to meet her needs. One of her most endearing qualities is her need to have a toy in her mouth whenever she greets you. When she is really happy, she will not only wiggle her tail nonstop, but also wiggle her entire body! She is a lot of dog but can be such a goof that you cannot help but smile at her antics. She will not be placed with children.
